Origami Goat forms part of The Consolations of Nature, a suite of four etchings printed in the RA Schools with Simon Lawson, during Cathie Pilkington RA's time as Professor of Sculpture.
Produced in a limited edition of 40, each print is signed and numbered by the artist.
In this series, Pilkington uses the process of etching to transform a group of origami animals and toys into sculptural propositions. The rich, painterly effects are achieved by using the á la poupée technique, whereby different colours are applied and hand wiped on each plate.
The RA Editions programme generates valuable revenue for the RA and in particular the RA Schools.
Fantastical, unsettling, surreal, dramatic – these are the impressions Cathie Pilkington RA makes on the viewer with an etching that’s similar in tone to her painted bronze sculpture.
It’s part of a suite of four prints, along with The Consolation of Nature, Bright Birds, and Unicorn. Striking and powerful are Pilkington’s darkened background and exaggerated shadow.
Pilkington graduated with an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 1997 and was awarded the Cheltenham Fine Art Fellowship in 1998. Her multiple award-winning work is exhibited internationally.
All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools
