The Curwen Press was a key player in British printmaking and typography in the early 20th century and in 1943 the press created this poster for the RA’s Summer Exhibition of the same year. During the war Curwen printed government information and propaganda, so perhaps it is no accident that this poster looks very much like government information posters of the time. The Curwen Press worked with a range of important artists including Royal Academicians Edward Bawden and Edward Ardizzone.
