Summer Exhibition Poster, 1960

Publicity continued to be a matter of some anxiety within the Royal Academy as, by 1960, its finances were in a parlous condition. The direct impact of posters on exhibition attendance was difficult to prove and in 1958 a poster had been abandoned altogether. Two designs were created for the exhibition of 1960. These rare survivals are possibly proof prints, produced by Kelpra to assist the Academy’s Council in making a final decision as to which to use.
