This poster for the Royal Academy's 1974 Summer Exhibition features a design by Betty Swanwick RA (1915-1989) and Gordon House. It remains one of the most popular of the Summer Exhibition posters among both Academicians and staff. The ghosts of Sir Joshua Reynolds pra and Angelica Kauffman ra stand enraptured by a contemporary abstract painting, while in the distance people throng a portrait of the Queen on horseback. Swanwick was among the many artists who started their careers by designing posters for London Transport and Shell-Mex.

This retrospective collection of Royal Academy posters, created in colllaboration with Surface View, displays a glorious intersection between art and design, and includes classic posters such as the seminal Sensation Exhibition in 1997 designed by Why Not Associates, Anish Kapoor’s ground breaking exhibition of 2009, and Henri Matisse’s artwork featured on the 1975 French Graphic Art exhibition poster.
Each poster is printed on robust Tyvek® paper with a satin finish and is supplied with struts and bulldog clips for fixing. Each print retains the quality, quirks and age-worn beauty of the original image.

Your poster will be printed to order by Surface View. Please allow up to 14 working days for the order to be processed, printed and delivered within the UK. Orders for delivery internationally may take longer. You will be contacted with tracking details once your order has been despatched.
