Product story
Phillips is renowned for his pioneering artist’s book, A Humument, which was given a dedicated gallery at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, 2015. For this work, he drew, collaged and painted over the pages of an obscure Victorian novel, The Human Document, by W.H. Mallock. By revealing and obscuring parts of its text he transformed each page into a unique work of art.
These new prints use a similar visual language, whereby Phillips makes tiny monochrome marks to create his intriguingly dreamlike images. In Tantal: The Night Sky, the ghostly forms apparently floating on the horizon bear some resemblance to the figures found in the Nazca Desert of Peru, which allegedly trace Ley Lines (lines of spirit travel, drawn by ancient cultures).
