War Savings Posters by Schoolchildren Exhibition Poster, 1941

Unlike many of London's major museums the Royal Academy remained open throughout the Second World War.  The galleries were host to an astonishing variety of displays, mounted under the most challenging of circumstances.  In August 1941 it welcomed the designs of hundreds of schoolchildren as part of a competition.  This was the first time the Royal Academy had staged an exhibition comprising solely of children's art.
