In this RA Edition, Asklepios, the Greek god of healing is re-presented through a modern filter. Digitally manipulated and recast in Jesmonite, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom has created a talisman for our present age.
Produced in the RA Schools as an edition of 12, each piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
"Digitisation has become a new filter through which to view the world, like when you go for an eye test and the optician inserts another lens and ask you to read the letters one more time. Only each previous lens is still inyour facial armature: for some it makes the picture clearer and for others clarity is lost."
Zachary Eastwood-Bloom isa London-based artist and a RA Schools graduate who explores the blurring space between the material and digital worlds. He works with various materials and processes as wellas sound and video.
The RA Editions programme generates valuable revenue for the RA and in particular the RA Schools.

While studying at the RA Schools Eastwood-Bloom would see the bust of Asklepios in the life drawing rooms in the RA Schools and was inspired by his intelligent appearance. Asklepios was the Greek god of healing – to Eastwood-Bloom he seemed like an apt talisman for any age in history. He then wanted to see this wise figure through a digital filter so generated a digital 3D model of him, manipulated him and remade him. For the artist Asklepois has now become a god of healing in the present age, a new talisman.
All proceeds from the sale of RA Editions prints go directly to support the RA Schools.
