I Bite & Sting (Caterpillar) Chambers RA

by Stephen Chambers RA

One of twelve works in the I Bite & I Sting series, this etching by Stephen Chambers RA is currently on show in the Academicians' Room, as part of his Chapters display.

"Hopefully laced with levity, they are my personal riposte to the world in our current wonky times, the toil and the strains. They were drawn in Berlin and printed in London during the first Covid lockdown. I intend them to be an affirmative, jocular growl at those things which block our path. 12 animals that are likely to bite back should their tail be tweaked. They are, in that sense, all self-portraits." - Stephen Chambers

Product story

‘Each set begins with an idea, is made in a compressed period of time and once concluded, abandoned. Consequently, each set represents a moment and a collaboration. Each having its own identity. I, as their maker, am the only constant. The results: chapters.’ - Stephen Chambers

This display showcases the diverse and inventive work of Royal Academician Stephen Chambers. Bringing together multiple series, Chapters is as much about concentrated stages of the artistic process as it is an eclectic representation of collaboration in print.

Produced using different techniques, in tandem with several master print studios, the resulting sets demonstrate a spectrum of visual possibilities within the medium of printmaking, whilst retaining the strong narrative of Chambers’ work.
